LJB safety professionals focus on fall protection, continually seeking improved ways to protect workers. Our clients benefit from comprehensive solutions that include engineering, safety, procedures, and training.

We are seeking a Mid-level Structural Engineer for our Safety practice. The role involves analyzing, designing, planning, and creating structural components and systems, leading fall protection design projects for LJB clients.

Annual Compensation: $80,000 - 110,000, depending on experience, certifications, and regional standards.

Essential Functions of the Mid-level Structural Engineer:
  1. Document existing conditions to support fall protection system additions, including fixed platforms, fall arrest anchorages, and horizontal lifelines.
  2. Analyze building components supporting fall protection systems, such as structural steel framing, cold-formed steel, and cast-in-place concrete.
  3. Develop fall protection layouts aligned with customer needs and existing structures.
  4. Prepare detailed engineering calculations.
  5. Assist in preparing construction documents.
  6. Coordinate with design staff to ensure accurate documentation and drawings.
  7. Communicate with clients regarding project issues and attend meetings as needed.
  8. Maintain technical knowledge through training, seminars, publications, and in-house programs.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Travel willingness (including overnight stays) to various US locations.
  • Work independently and collaboratively.
  • Understand and train in OSHA/ANSI fall protection standards.
  • Pass background checks, drug tests, and MVR checks.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Credentials and Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil, architectural, or mechanical engineering with a structural emphasis; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Knowledge of industry standards such as OSHA 1926 and ANSI Z359.

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years in structural engineering design, including fall protection projects.
  • Proficiency with CAD (Revit, Bluebeam), RAM, or other structural analysis software.
  • Excellent communication skills.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to traverse worksites in various weather conditions, and perform physical activities such as bending, climbing, stretching, reaching, and leaning.
  • Meet weight capacity requirements for fall protection systems (130-310 lbs).
  • Awareness of construction site hazards.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
