Job summary

AMT Engineering is seeking a Structural / Bridge Engineer located in Mechanicsburg, PA, or other office locations. Job description

Morton Thomas and Associates, Inc. (AMT) is seeking a Structural / Bridge Engineer with 4+ years of relevant experience in analysis and design of new and rehabilitation structures. The successful candidate will work on highway (DOT) and pedestrian bridges, retaining walls, load rating, and other related structures to support varied structural transportation projects for state departments of transportation, counties, municipalities and private clients. The position can be located in Mechanicsburg, PA or other AMT office locations.

Responsibilities
  • Prepares and performs structural analysis, design plans, specifications, and estimates for bridge projects while collaborating with multidisciplinary design teams.
  • Provides project planning experience, including general oversight, design implementation, and ensures quality of work products.
  • Maintains knowledge of state DOT and local agency design standards, criteria, practices, and policies.
  • Performs structural analysis/design and mentors team members through the design process.
  • Serves in a lead technical role on bridge or structural design projects.
  • Analyzes deteriorated components and assesses remaining capacities.
  • Develops and prepares construction documents (drawings, specifications, and cost estimates).
  • Performs structural inspections/field investigations (if needed) and prepares related reports.
  • Prepares and coordinates structural technical reports, cost estimates, marketing and fee proposals.
  • Performs QA/QC review of documents prepared by others in accordance with AMT’s Quality Management Plan.
  • Participates in business development, project pursuits, alternative delivery methods, and leads client meetings.
  • Reviews and processes contractor’s RFIs and shop drawing submittals.
  • Prepares and performs other duties as required.
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre‑employment background check.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited institution; Master’s degree in Structural Engineering is preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure required or ability to obtain via reciprocity within 6 months of hire.
  • 4+ years of experience in bridge design and analysis, including concrete and steel structures.
  • Experience that includes planning, inspection, design (new and rehabilitative), load ratings, contract documentation, and construction support services.
  • Knowledge of state DOT, local municipal, and county design standards, criteria, practices, and policies.
  • Willingness to perform hands‑on bridge condition inspections and comfortable with heights.
  • Desired proficiency in software such as LEAP Bridge Enterprise, LARSA 4D, LPile, MDX, Descus, AASHTOWare BrR, Merlin DASH, spColumn, PennDOT software packages, Bentley MicroStation and/or OpenRoads/Bridge.
  • Valid driver’s license in good standing.
  • Ability and willingness to travel as required; primarily local with occasional weekly out‑of‑state travel.
  • Physical requirements: majority of work is office‑based; must be able to use standard office equipment. Some field work may be required, involving navigation of unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment. Field work may expose the employee to extreme heat, cold, or inclement weather.
