Overview
Morton Thomas and Associates, Inc. (AMT) is seeking a Structural / Bridge Engineer with 4+ years of relevant experience in analysis and design of new and rehabilitation structures to join the structural engineering team in Pittsburgh, PA or other office locations. The successful candidate will have strong design skills, manage tasks and projects, mentor, and lead team members on highway (DOT) and pedestrian bridges; retaining walls; load rating, and other related structures. The role supports a wide variety of structural transportation projects for state departments of transportation, counties, municipalities and private clients, with opportunities to work on related structures in other states through an interoffice staff utilization program.

Responsibilities
- Prepares/performs and checks structural analysis, design plans, specifications, and estimates for bridge projects while working collaboratively with multi-discipline design teams.
- Provides experience in project planning including general oversight, design, implementation, and ensuring quality of work products.
- Maintains knowledge of state DOT and local agency design standards and criteria, practices, and policies.
- Performs structural analysis/design and leads/mentors team members through the design process.
- Ability to serve in a lead technical role on bridge or structural design projects.
- Analyzes deteriorated components and assesses remaining capacities.
- Develops/prepares construction documents (drawings, specifications, and cost estimates).
- Performs structural inspections/field investigations (if needed) and prepares related reports.
- Prepares and coordinates structural technical reports, cost estimates, marketing, and fee proposals.
- Performs QA/QC review of documents prepared by others in accordance with AMT’s Quality Management Plan.
- Participates in business development and project pursuits including alternative delivery, and participates in project meetings, with the ability to lead and facilitate meetings with clients.
- Reviews and processes contractor’s Requests for Information (RFI) and shop drawing submittals.
- Performs other duties as required.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution. Master’s degree in Structural Engineering is preferred.
- Professional Engineer (PE) licensure required or the ability to obtain via reciprocity within 6 months of hire.
- 4+ years of experience in bridge design and analysis including concrete and steel structures.
- Experience that includes planning, inspection, design (new and rehabilitative), load ratings, contract documentation, and construction support services.
- Knowledge of state DOT, local municipal, and county design standards and criteria, practices, and policies.
- Willingness to perform hands-on bridge condition inspection and comfortable with heights.
- Proficiency in software such as LEAP Bridge Enterprise, LARSA 4D, LPile, MDX, Descus, AASHTOWare BrR, Merlin DASH, spColumn, PennDOT software packages, Bentley MicroStation and/or OpenRoads/Bridge software.
- Valid driver’s license in good standing.
- Ability and willingness to travel as required. Travel is primarily local and typically does not require an overnight stay; some weekly travel may be required on occasion.
- All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, project managers, supervisors, and other team members.
- Physical requirements: majority of work is office-based; some field work may be required, including working at heights and exposed to extreme weather. Some travel may be required.
