Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a mid-level Site Civil Engineer to support electrical utility and renewable energy projects. The role covers grading, drainage, and site design for substations, transmission lines, solar, wind and storage sites. Hybrid/remote work is possible with collaboration in multiple U.S.

offices. You will prepare engineering deliverables and review drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D or MicroStation, and perform hydrologic/hydraulic modeling with HydroCAD, HEC-RAS, Flo-2D, or SWMM.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related discipline.
  • Engineer in Training Certification or ability to obtain.
  • PE license within 1 year preferred.
  • Experience with utility/site design, storm drainage, grading, and road design.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review civil/site design deliverables for utilities, renewables, and infrastructure projects.
  • Create and review AutoCAD Civil 3D or MicroStation drawings.
  • Model hydrology/hydraulics and stormwater using HydroCAD, HEC-RAS, Flo-2D, or SWMM.
  • Assist with site layout, grading, drainage and construction drawing production.
  • Coordinate with Project Engineer/Manager to meet scope, budget and quality.
  • Mentor less experienced team members and review work.

Job description

The Opportunity

WSP is currently seeking a mid-level Site Civil Engineer to join our team supporting the electrical utility and renewable energy service areas. Our department specializes in high-performing projects with a focus on the future. Our goal is to deliver excellent projects together with a positive experience for our clients and our communities alike.

This position will be based in our Cincinnati, OH office, Billings, MT office, or Exton, PA office, with the ability to work in a hybrid setting, a combination of home and office, or remotely.

Your Impact

You'll be asked to support grading and drainage/stormwater management design for new and existing electrical utility substations and transmission lines, renewable energy sites (solar, wind, battery storage), as well as access road design, permitting, and construction support.

Prepare and review engineering deliverables in support of civil/site engineering projects:

  • AutoCAD/AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation
  • Hydrologic and hydraulic modeling
  • Stormwater management calculations, design, and modeling using HydroCAD or similar
  • Floodplain modeling and analysis using HECRAS or Flo-2D
  • Site layout, grading, drainage designs, and construction drawing production
  • Bill of materials
  • Construction specifications
  • Perform detailed engineering reviews of the work submitted by others
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to others
  • Coordinate regularly with the Project Engineer/Manager to ensure project scope, budget, and quality expectations are met
Who You Are
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or closely related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant post education experience in engineering discipline and prior civil design experience.
  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Experience in site design for utilities, industrial facilities, municipal infrastructure, storm drainage and stormwater management design, site grading, roadway, and utility design, sanitary sewer design and analysis, construction specification development and development of construction bid packages
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation experience
  • Four (4) to eight (8) + years of experience in civil site/design as outlined above
  • The candidate must have a strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel
  • Experience using the Microsoft Office software suite
Desired Education/Experience
  • Professional Engineering License, with NCEES Record and state reciprocity or ability to receive PE License within 1 year
  • Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D grading/site development modeling and design
  • Stormwater management and hydraulic modeling software (HydroCAD, SWMM, HEC-RAS, etc.) experience in drainage, detention and stormwater conveyance
  • Electric utility substation design experience is a plus
