Job summary

The Maurer Lab at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor is seeking a Research Technician to support vector-host interaction studies in rAAV gene therapies, combining advanced imaging with genomic and proteomic approaches.

Responsibilities include preparing vector stocks, performing microscopy and qPCR, cloning plasmids, data management, and contributing to publications and conferences. The role offers training, collaborative work, and opportunities to present findings at meetings.

Qualifications

• BS in molecular and cellular biology with 2+ years wet lab experience.
• Expertise in mammalian cell culture and sterile technique.
• Experience with multichannel pipetting and 96‑well plate assays, including fluorescence/luminescence readers.
• Ability to read, interpret, and critically evaluate primary scientific literature.
• Experience with molecular cloning (Gibson assembly, PCR, restriction digest, ligation).
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel/PowerPoint/Word and scientific writing.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and apply rAAV vector stocks to cultured cells.
• Collect data via microscopy, qPCR, and other methods.
• Clone plasmids according to experimental needs.
• Opportunity to gain experience communicating work through publications and conferences.
• Work independently in tissue culture and benchwork under supervision.
• Optimize or troubleshoot AAV transduction and production protocols.
• Perform live and fixed cell microscopy and data collection.
