Distinct, a global law firm, is expanding its Los Angeles employment team and seeks a mid-level Labor and Employment Associate to handle wage-and-hour matters and trial work.
The role is fully remote with a California focus; you’ll mentor junior colleagues, draft pleadings, advise clients, and manage cases in state and federal courts. JD and CA Bar admission required, with about four to five years of relevant experience.
Mid Level Labor and Employment Associate | Fully Remote, Los Angeles | $270,000 to $290,000
Teaching someone else how to do your job is the fastest way to find out which bits of it you've been making up as you go along.
That's part of this one. The Los Angeles employment team at a big international firm is growing, and they're after someone around year four or five who can bring the newer people along with them. Showing a second year how to prep a witness, marking up somebody's first motion without just rewriting it yourself, sitting in on a call so they can hear how you handle a nervous client. If you've already had a junior or two following you around at your current place, they'll like that a lot.
The rest of the week is California employment work. Advising clients on wage and hour rules and the wider labor questions that come with them, running cases through state and federal courts, plus all the research and drafting nobody gets out of at year five either.
Who they'd like:
Somebody who keeps their head when three things land on the same afternoon, and who explains things to a client clearly enough that they don't have to ask again. A JD, the California Bar, and California employment experience at about that four or five year mark.
It's fully remote and the band is $270,000 to $290,000. The California team isn't big, so a good year gets seen by the people who matter.
