Job summary

WSP is seeking a Mid Level HVAC Mechanical Engineer in Hamilton, NJ to design, analyze, and coordinate mechanical systems for a variety of building projects. You will work under Senior Engineers and Project Managers, supporting design, analysis, and construction of HVAC systems for new and existing facilities.

Ideal candidates have 3–5 years of HVAC experience, EIT preferred with PE potential, and strong skills in load calculations, equipment selection, and coordination with multi-discipline

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited program.
  • 3 to 5 years of HVAC and mechanical systems design experience.
  • EIT certification preferred; ability to obtain Professional Engineer licensure in the future.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical building systems and applicable building codes.
  • Experience performing HVAC load calculations and equipment selection.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support the design and development of HVAC and mechanical systems for commercial, institutional, healthcare, industrial, and other building projects.
  • Perform heating and cooling load calculations and assist with equipment sizing and selection, including air handling units, pumps, boilers, chillers, and fans.
  • Prepare mechanical design drawings, specifications, reports, and other project documentation.
  • Assist with developing construction documents while adhering to WSP's QA/QC standards.
  • Conduct field investigations and site visits to evaluate existing conditions and gather information for project designs.
  • Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, electrical engineers, and other disciplines throughout project development.
  • Participate in project meetings with clients, owners, contractors, and internal project teams.
  • Support the preparation of cost estimates, schedules, and technical studies.
  • Review mechanical system designs for compliance with applicable building codes, industry standards, and client requirements.
  • Assist with construction administration activities, including responding to RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, and performing site observations.
  • Analyze engineering data and provide recommendations to support project objectives.
  • Stay current with industry trends, building codes, and emerging mechanical engineering technologies.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required to support project and business needs.
