Job summary

Stanleygroup is seeking a Mid Level Physical Substation Design Engineer to lead high voltage substation physical design up to 500kV. The role involves coordinating with multiple disciplines, performing design calculations, and delivering complete substation packages.

You will mentor junior staff, perform site visits, and support project proposals while ensuring standards and client requirements are met. This hybrid Denver-based position offers growth and diverse project exposure.

Qualifications

• BS from ABET-accredited university.
• 5+ years of substation physical design experience.
• Experience working directly with clients, supporting proposals.
• Experience managing a design budget and schedule.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Legal to work in the United States for any length of time.
• PE license required; ability to obtain PE within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Detailed physical design for high voltage substations including SLDs, elevations, and BOMs.
• Conduct electrical system studies and analysis with various software.
• Coordinate with other disciplines and conduct site visits for data gathering.
• Write procurement and construction specifications and evaluate bids.
• Review shop drawings and ensure conformance with specs and standards.
• Provide field support during construction and commissioning.
• Mentor junior engineers and design staff.
• Occasional overnight travel for client meetings and site visits.

We are seeking qualified candidates for aMid Level Substation Physical Design Engineer with a strong background in high voltage substation design.Technical responsibilities will include the design of any / all the following: substation physical designs up to 500kV; computer modeling/analysis of electrical systems; preparation of specifications for equipment and systems; report preparation; applying codes and standards and performing and reviewing design calculations.

Position will be responsible for leading design efforts and performing design duties with minimal supervision on multiple projects. Must be able to determine client requirements and coordinate technical efforts within discipline areas as necessary, coordinate with other disciplines as needed, manage a design budget and schedule, and be able to demonstrate proficiency in these areas.

Detailed physical design for high voltage substations including creating or modifying:

Single line diagrams and general arrangements

Detailed Elevations and section views

Assembly and installation details

Detailed bills of materials, bid units and material counts

Electrical system studies and analysis software (ASPEN, ETAP, SKM, PSS/E, PSLF, CDEGS, WinIGS) experience preferred but not required

Familiar with typical design software and tools (Bluebeam, AutoCAD, Inventor, Revit, Microstation) experience preferred but not required

Coordination with other disciplines as needed

Performing site visits for data gathering and asbuilts

Writing material procurement and construction specifications & evaluating contractor bids

Factory Acceptance, Witness testing and Reviewing shop drawings for Spec / Design conformance

Reviews client equipment and design specs and confirms conformance with industry standards and best practices.

Performs typical calculations such as equipment and conductor sizing, rigid bus strength, insulation coordination, grounding and lightning protection

Generating engineering fee estimates

Providing field support during construction and commissioning

Mentors and teaches less experienced engineers and design staff

Occasional overnight travel may be required for client meetings and or site visits

BS from an ABET accredited University

5+ years ofsubstation physicaldesign experience

Experience working directly with clients, supporting marketing proposals/efforts preferred

Experience managing a design budget and schedule preferred

Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills

Must be able to work legally in the United States for any length of time

PE license required, ability to obtain PE required within 6 mos. of hire
