Responsibilities

• Design high voltage substation physical layouts up to 500 kV.
• Create and modify single line diagrams and general arrangements.
• Prepare detailed elevation and section views.
• Develop detailed assembly and installation details and bills of materials.
• Coordinate with other disciplines and conduct site visits for data gathering and as-built documentation.
• Write and evaluate contractor bids and construction specifications.
• Perform factory acceptance and shop drawing reviews to ensure design specification compliance.
• Verify client equipment and design specifications against industry standards.
• Perform engineering calculations including equipment sizing, bus strength, insulation coordination, grounding, and lightning protection.
• Generate engineering fee estimates and provide field support during construction and commissioning.
• Mentor and train less experienced engineers and design staff.
• Travel overnight for client meetings or site visits as required.

Required Qualifications

• B.S. from an ABET-accredited university.
• 10+ years of substation physical design experience.
• Experience working directly with clients and supporting marketing proposals preferred.
• Experience managing design budgets and schedules preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States for any duration.
• PE license required; ability to obtain Texas PE within six months of hire.
