Job description

FINCA International is a global nonprofit organization dedicated to ending poverty through sustainable and scalable solutions that expand economic opportunity. Operating across multiple regions worldwide, FINCA works to empower underserved communities through financial inclusion, social enterprise, and impact-driven development programs.

Over the next five years, FINCA aims to impact 40 million lives and secure $400 million in donor and investor capital to support this mission. Achieving this vision will require a more scalable, data-driven, and digitally sophisticated fundraising model capable of deepening donor engagement while directly connecting supporters to measurable client impact.

About the Role

The Mid-Level Giving Officer is responsible for managing and growing FINCA’s mid-level donor program by strengthening relationships with donors whose giving demonstrates the potential for deeper engagement and future major or planned gifts. This role serves as a bridge between FINCA’s direct marketing program and its major gifts program by cultivating donors who respond to personalized philanthropic engagement.

The Officer manages a portfolio of up to 1,000 donors making gifts in the range of $500 to $5,000 per year. The Officer enhances engagement with these individuals to increase retention and giving levels as well as to identify and qualify potential major donor and planned giving prospects.

The ideal candidate is both analytical and relationship-oriented, with experience leveraging data to segment audiences and drive engagement and results. The Officer also must be highly organized, proficient in Salesforce or similar CRM platforms, and deeply motivated by FINCA’s mission to expand economic opportunity and end global poverty.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a portfolio of up to 1,000 mid-level donors who have given to FINCA for multiple years and could upgrade to higher giving levels.
  • Develop and oversee the execution of omni-channel direct marketing campaigns (email and text, digital, mail, and phone) designed to increase donor retention and lifetime value.
  • Ensure donors receive timely acknowledgements of their gifts through multiple channels.
  • Build meaningful relationships through personalized communication and engagement, handing off relationships to a major gifts officer when a major or planned gift opportunity seems likely.
  • Spot check data entry of $1000+ gifts by FINCA’s caging firm and alert them to errors.
Metrics Tracking, Reporting, and Analysis
  • Monitor and analyze donor engagement metrics and campaign performance to inform strategy and decision-making.
  • Generate regular reports and dashboards to assess KPIs such as retention, upgrade/downgrade, and lifetime value.
  • Use data insights to inform the model that determines which donors qualify to be included in FINCA’s mid-level program as well as to refine segmentation and messaging strategies.
Direct Mail Oversight
  • Serve as primary point of contact for the Direct Mail Agency on production timelines, creative reviews, and package approvals.
  • Work with FINCA’s marketing agencies and FINCA’s communications team to develop impactful donor materials and campaigns.
  • Work with the Major Gifts teams to align donor journeys and messaging.
  • Support the Donor Service Officer in responding to incoming phone calls (live calls and voicemails), letters, and emails from donors and the public.
  • Contribute to annual planning and forecasting for mid-level donor goals (revenue, retention, engagement rates, etc.).
Qualifications and Competencies
  • Associate degree or bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or related field.
  • 2-4 years of experience in donor relations, fundraising, or direct marketing in a nonprofit setting.
  • History managing a donor portfolio or executing marketing programs focused on hitting retention or revenue targets.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and translate insights into actionable strategies.
  • Clear communicator capable of effectively conveying FINCA’s mission and impact in writing and verbally.
  • Proficiency in Salesforce or similar CRM platforms.
  • Experience explaining planned giving opportunities.
  • Meticulous with strong organizational and project management abilities.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities and adjust engagement strategies as needed.
  • Passion for FINCA’s mission and commitment to social impact.
Key Performance Indicators
  • Retention: a retention rate of 80% or greater
  • Major Gifts Prospects: 25 qualified leads brought to the major gifts program with giving capacity of at least $10,000 per year
  • Planned Gifts Prospects: 25 qualified leads handed off to the major gifts team for further development
