Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a Development Officer in Kentucky to manage a donor portfolio and drive annual giving goals. You will develop strategies to retain and upgrade donors, qualify prospects, and coordinate engagement through meetings, events, and communications.

The role requires 5+ years in fundraising or donor relations, strong relationship skills, and experience with donor databases and CRM systems. Local travel and some evening events are expected.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated success managing donor relationships and meeting revenue goals.
  • Experience managing a portfolio of donors through a structured relationship process.
  • Ability to solicit gifts and conduct donor visits professionally.

Job description

  • Manage a portfolio of up to 150 donors and prospects with annual giving of approximately $5,000 to $25,000
  • Meet or exceed annual revenue and donor engagement goals
  • Develop strategies to retain, renew, and upgrade assigned donors and prospects
  • Qualify prospects based on philanthropic interests, giving capacity, readiness, and next steps
  • Identify opportunities for planned gifts, multi-year commitments, sponsorships, and other support
  • Create donor mission-engagement opportunities through site visits, events, volunteer engagement, and conversations
  • Maintain regular donor contact through meetings, calls, written communication, events, and site visits
  • Track donor interactions, opportunities, and next steps in the donor database/CRM system
  • Manage the full donor lifecycle from prospect identification through stewardship and renewal
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors to meet fundraising goals
  • Prepare donor proposals, presentations, and gift requests
  • Partner with senior leadership and board members on donor engagement strategies
  • Assist with fundraising campaigns, special events, and donor recognition activities
  • Collaborate with program staff and leadership to leverage donor, youth, family, and member success stories
  • Work with grants and reporting personnel to ensure communications accurately reflect program outcomes and impact data
  • Coordinate with marketing and communications to align messaging and donor engagement efforts
  • Maintain accurate donor records, communication logs, and pipeline activity
  • Monitor portfolio performance and fundraising progress against goals and metrics
  • Prepare reports and updates for leadership as requested
  • Report to and receive direction from the Senior Director of Advancement
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, communications, marketing, business, or related field preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of fundraising, donor relations, sales, or relationship management experience preferred
  • Demonstrated success managing donor or client relationships and meeting revenue goals
  • Experience managing a portfolio of donors, prospects, clients, or accounts through a structured relationship management process
  • Ability to make direct gift requests and conduct donor visits with professionalism and confidence
  • Ability to interpret and communicate program impact, outcome data, and funding priorities in a donor-centered way
  • Familiarity with moves management, donor stewardship, annual giving, major gifts, and leadership giving programs preferred
  • Ability to travel locally for donor meetings, site visits, and events
  • Occasional evening and weekend availability required for donor meetings and organizational events
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
  • Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion
  • Experience using donor databases or CRM systems preferred
  • Final candidates must clear a background check and drug test
  • The Development Officer will be expected to appear in-person when required
