Job summary

National Journal is seeking a mid-level Django/Python Web Developer to join our Washington, DC–based audience-focused team. You will build and deploy Django-based tools used by government affairs professionals and policy advocates.

You’ll work on a digital platform with election data, directories, and journalism, supporting both new services and enhancements to Ada CMS. A strong emphasis on back-end work and collaboration with product teams is required.

Qualifications

• 1+ year of web development experience with Python (preferably Django).
• Clean HTML, CSS, and JavaScript; Git basics.
• Experience or interest in LLm-based coding assistants is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Build, test, and deploy web tools in Django/Python.
• Support a digital platform serving researchers and policy professionals.
• Maintain large datasets in formats like PostgreSQL, MySQL, and via APIs.
• Enhance Ada CMS and internal tooling used by product teams.
• Develop tools to automate work and leverage AI where appropriate.
• Handle a full-stack mix with emphasis on back-end development.
