KERAMIDA Inc. is seeking a Mid-Level Design Engineer to join our Design Engineering team in Pittsburgh. You will design natural gas regulator stations, POD facilities, and related pipeline infrastructure, delivering complete design packages and calculations.

The role requires 3–6 years in natural gas utility design or related infrastructure, an ABET-accredited degree, and potential EIT/PE licensure. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and mentor junior engineers on projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Mechanical, Environmental, or related Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
  • 3–6 years of engineering experience in natural gas utility design or related infrastructure.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred, or ability to obtain.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain licensure.

Responsibilities

  • Lead or support the engineering design of natural gas regulator stations, POD facilities, valve settings, and associated pipeline infrastructure.
  • Prepare complete design packages including construction drawings, specifications, equipment layouts, bills of materials, and construction details.
  • Perform engineering calculations related to gas flow, pressure regulation, regulator sizing, piping design, and overpressure protection.
  • Coordinate with survey, environmental, permitting, civil, structural, electrical, and construction personnel throughout project development.
  • Review client standards and ensure designs comply with applicable federal, state, local, and utility requirements.
  • Develop project cost estimates, equipment lists, and material takeoffs.
  • Participate in design review meetings with clients and provide engineering recommendations.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance during project execution.

-Level Design Engineer, Facilities – Gate Stations, Regulation Stations, & Point of Delivery (POD)

KERAMIDA’s Design services are expanding and we are seeking a Mid-Level Design Engineer to join our growing Design Engineering team. This position focuses on the design and development of natural gas regulator stations, Point of Delivery (POD) facilities, district regulator stations, and associated pipeline infrastructure.

The ideal candidate has experience designing natural gas facilities, enjoys solving complex engineering challenges, and can independently manage design tasks while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. This individual will play an important role in delivering high-quality engineering solutions for utility clients throughout the natural gas industry.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead or support the engineering design of natural gas regulator stations, POD facilities, valve settings, and associated pipeline infrastructure.
  • Prepare complete design packages including construction drawings, specifications, equipment layouts, bills of materials, and construction details.

Qualifications and Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Mechanical, Environmental, or related Engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited university.
  • 3 to 6 years of engineering experience in natural gas utility design or related infrastructure.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred, or ability to obtain.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain licensure.
  • Valid driver's license with the ability to travel to project sites as needed.
Technical Skills:
  • Experience designing natural gas regulator stations, meter stations, POD facilities, or similar pressure control systems.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D or AutoCAD.
  • Working knowledge of:
  • PHMSA regulations
  • DOT 49 CFR Part 192
  • ASME B31.8
  • Applicable state utility commission requirements
  • Ability to interpret utility standards, client specifications, and construction practices.
  • Experience preparing engineering calculations and equipment sizing documentation.
  • Familiarity with hydraulic modeling or gas flow analysis software is required.

Design Tasks:
  • Design steel and polyethylene (PE) natural gas piping systems for transmission and distribution applications.
  • Develop P&IDs, General Arrangement drawings, piping plans, profiles, and isometric drawings.
  • Design regulator stations, district regulator stations, meter stations, POD facilities, odorization systems, and valve assemblies.
  • Select and size regulators, relief valves, filters, meters, control valves, and associated station equipment.
  • Design piping systems in accordance with client standards and applicable codes.
  • Incorporate pipe supports, anchors, thermal expansion, restraint systems, and constructability considerations into station layouts.
  • Coordinate grading, drainage, fencing, access roads, foundations, and utility conflicts with supporting engineering disciplines.
  • Review vendor drawings and equipment submittals for compliance with project requirements.
  • Perform gas flow calculations, pressure drop analyses, regulator sizing, and system capacity evaluations.
  • Evaluate station operating conditions to ensure compliance with MAOP, overpressure protection requirements, and client operating criteria.
  • Develop engineering calculations supporting equipment selection and station configuration.
  • Review field survey information, SUE data, utility locates, and existing facility documentation to develop constructible designs.
  • Support constructability reviews, design QA/QC, and value engineering efforts throughout project development.
