Job summary

PTS Advance is seeking a Mechanical Engineer II to support the design and engineering of natural gas pipeline and compressor station projects. You will develop engineering solutions, perform calculations, select materials, and ensure compliance with industry codes and regulatory requirements.

You will collaborate with clients and multidisciplinary teams to establish scope, execute deliverables, monitor costs, and provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Minimum of 2 years of professional engineering experience.
• PE license preferred but not required.
• Strong knowledge of P&IDs and mechanical/process design documentation.
• Experience with ASME B31.3/31.4/31.8, and 49 CFR parts 192 & 195 a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform engineering and design for natural gas pipelines, compressor stations, metering facilities, and related facilities.
• Develop engineering calculations including pipe sizing, valve sizing, hydraulics, and equipment sizing.
• Coordinate with regulatory and permitting agencies and support project approvals and compliance.
• Review and develop P&IDs and other engineering drawings and documentation.
• Support project scope definition, cost monitoring, and technical issue resolution throughout the project lifecycle.

Job description

Our client is seeking a Mechanical Engineer II to support the engineering and design of natural gas pipeline and compressor station projects. This position will be responsible for developing engineering solutions, performing design calculations, selecting materials and equipment, and ensuring designs comply with applicable industry codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.

The Mechanical Engineer II will work closely with clients and multidisciplinary project teams to establish project scope, execute engineering deliverables, monitor project costs, and provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform engineering and design for natural gas pipelines, compressor stations, metering facilities, liquid pump stations, gas processing facilities, dehydration systems, heaters, filter separators, and slug catchers.
• Support pipeline and station replacement projects, modifications, upgrades, and new installations.
• Develop hydrostatic test designs for pipelines and pipeline segments, including testing required to establish or validate Maximum Allowable Operating Pressure (MAOP).
• Perform engineering calculations including pipe sizing, valve sizing, hydraulic analysis, compressor sizing/design, and pump sizing/design.
• Develop design criteria and select appropriate materials and equipment based on project requirements and applicable codes.
• Prepare equipment and material specifications, including technical data sheets and procurement documentation.
• Review and develop P&IDs and other engineering drawings and documentation.
• Coordinate with regulatory and permitting agencies and provide engineering support associated with project approvals and compliance.
• Work directly with clients to understand project requirements, establish scope, and address technical issues.
• Monitor project costs and progress, identify variances from plan, and support development of change orders when required.
• Participate in and facilitate project meetings with clients, engineering teams, vendors, and other project stakeholders.
• Provide engineering support during procurement, construction, testing, and project execution as required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Minimum of 2 years of professional engineering experience.
• Previous experience within the oil & gas, natural gas pipeline, midstream, or utility industry strongly preferred.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred but not required.
• Strong working knowledge of P&IDs and mechanical/process design documentation.
• Experience performing engineering calculations associated with piping, valves, pumps, compressors, and/or pipeline systems.
• Familiarity with applicable industry codes and standards, including:
• ASME B31.3
• ASME B31.4
• ASME B31.8
• 49 CFR Part 192
• 49 CFR Part 195
• Applicable ANSI, API, NFPA, and CSA standards
• Ability to interpret engineering specifications, drawings, codes, and client requirements.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively coordinate with clients and multidisciplinary project teams.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple engineering priorities and project deliverables.
