Job summary

GSI Environmental Inc. is seeking a mid-level Civil/Environmental Engineer in Folsom, California to lead stormwater projects and perform hydrologic assessments. Responsibilities include designing treatment facilities, conducting feasibility studies, and preparing permits and technical reports.

The role requires a BS or higher in Civil/Environmental Engineering (Master’s preferred), EIT is required, and PE certification is a plus. Travel within the U.S.

Qualifications

  • EIT required, PE certification preferred.
  • 5–12 years of professional experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Civil or Environmental Engineering (Master’s preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Support and lead stormwater-related projects.
  • Conduct hydrologic and hydraulic evaluations of stormwater runoff.
  • Design stormwater treatment facilities, pump stations, conveyance infrastructure, and infiltration systems.
  • Prepare grading and site improvement plan sets for permitting and construction.
  • Prepare documents such as proposals, plans, and technical reports (e.g., Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans, Exceedance Response Action Reports, Water Quality Based Corrective Action Reports).
  • Conduct engineering feasibility analyses.
  • Assist in the collection, evaluation, and management of stormwater quality data.
  • Conduct industrial and construction site assessments.
  • Develop and/or recommend stormwater best management practices to reduce pollutants in discharges.
  • Participate in research and development of innovative stormwater quality treatment technologies.
  • Provide permitting and compliance support to clients.
  • Collaborate with technical experts, project managers, colleagues, and subcontractors.
  • Apply remedial technologies through engineering designs, permitting, contractor and equipment procurement, construction planning, oversight, and system operation, maintenance, and monitoring.
  • Coordinate with vendors, subcontractors, and analytical laboratories and perform subcontractor oversight independently.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Civil or Environmental Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 5–12 years of relevant professional experience preferred.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) required; Professional Engineer (PE) certification preferred.
  • Understanding or interest in stormwater/wastewater regulations and related permit requirements.
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and organize complex datasets.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to travel domestically for fieldwork.
