Job summary

Norwich Public Schools Kelly Magnet Middle School in Norwich, Connecticut is seeking a Mid-Day Shift Custodian to help provide a safe, clean, and welcoming learning environment. You will clean classrooms and corridors, handle routine maintenance tasks, and assist with snow removal as needed.

The position reports to the Facilities Director and Building Administrator. It is a full-time role with a wage of $24.07–$26.95 per hour, with benefits in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or its equivalent is required.
• Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and necessary.

Responsibilities

• Keep building and premises neat and clean at all times.
• Shovel, plow and sand walks, driveways, parking areas, and steps as appropriate.
• Clean classrooms daily and dust as needed.
• Clean corridors daily and as needed throughout the day.
• Disinfect toilets and floors daily and clean fixtures and drinking fountains daily.
• Wash windows inside and outside at least twice per year and more often if needed.
• Perform yard keeping chores to maintain safe school grounds.
• Keep floors clean and in good condition.
• Report damage to school property to administrator or supervisor.
• Remain on premises during school hours and after-hours when required by administrator or supervisor.
• Ensure doors, windows, lights off (except for safety) and alarm on before leaving.
• Move furniture as directed for activities and by building administrator or supervisor.
• Comply with laws and procedures for disposal of trash, rubbish and waste.
• Do other related work as required by Head Custodian, Building Administrator and Facilities Supervisor.
