Job summary

Insight Global is seeking a senior Microsoft 365 Engineer to join the Digital Workplace team on a 12-month contract. You will design, administer, secure, and optimize the Microsoft 365 ecosystem including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, OneDrive, and Purview.

You will drive migrations, governance implementations, automation, and Tier 3 support, collaborating with Information Security and Infrastructure to ensure compliant, well-documented operations.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience administering and engineering Microsoft 365 environments.
  • Strong expertise in Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, OneDrive, Entra ID/Azure AD.
  • Experience designing migrations, security architecture, and governance for large orgs.

Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, administer, and optimize Microsoft 365 services (Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, OneDrive).
  • Lead migrations from legacy storage to SharePoint Online and OneDrive with minimal disruption.
  • Implement and manage security controls, governance policies, DLP, retention, and compliance in Microsoft 365.

Job Description

A client of Insight Global is seeking a highly skilled Microsoft 365 Engineer to join the Digital Workplace team on a 12-month contract. This role is responsible for the design, administration, security, governance, and optimization of the Microsoft 365 ecosystem, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, OneDrive, and Microsoft Purview.

This is not a traditional Microsoft 365 Administrator role. The ideal candidate will bring a deep technical understanding of Microsoft 365 architecture, security controls, governance frameworks, and backend configuration management. They will serve as a senior technical resource for platform design, migrations, security implementation, automation, and Tier 3 support.

A strong emphasis is placed on technical documentation, operational excellence, and collaboration with Information Security and Infrastructure teams to ensure Microsoft 365 services are secure, compliant, and aligned with organizational standards.

Key Responsibilities
Microsoft 365 Engineering & Administration
  • Design, deploy, administer, and optimize Microsoft 365 services including:
  • Exchange Online
  • SharePoint Online
  • Microsoft Teams
  • OneDrive for Business
  • Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD)
  • Configure and maintain Microsoft 365 tenant settings, policies, and governance controls.
  • Design and build SharePoint Online sites, document libraries, and collaboration environments.
  • Configure and manage permissions, access controls, and security groups to support business requirements.
  • Partner with business and technical stakeholders to improve collaboration and information management capabilities.
Migration & Modernization
  • Lead migration efforts from legacy file storage platforms and shared drives to SharePoint Online and OneDrive.
  • Assess existing environments and develop migration strategies, governance standards, and user adoption plans.
  • Execute migrations while minimizing operational disruption and maintaining data integrity.
Security, Compliance & Governance
  • Implement and maintain Microsoft 365 security controls and best practices.
  • Develop and administer governance policies across the Microsoft 365 environment.
  • Configure and manage:
  • Data Loss Prevention (DLP)
  • Retention Labels and Policies
  • Information Lifecycle Management
  • Compliance Controls
  • Access Management Policies
  • Collaborate closely with the Information Security team to ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory requirements.
  • Support security investigations, audits, and remediation activities as needed.
Microsoft Purview
  • Design, configure, and maintain Microsoft Purview solutions.
  • Implement data governance, records management, sensitivity labels, and compliance controls.
  • Support information protection initiatives and ensure proper data classification practices.
  • Provide recommendations on Microsoft Purview capabilities and roadmap opportunities.
Automation & Scripting
  • Develop automation solutions using PowerShell and Microsoft automation tools.
  • Streamline administration, reporting, governance, and operational processes.
  • Create repeatable deployment and maintenance procedures.
Backup, Recovery & Platform Operations
  • Support Microsoft 365 backup and recovery operations utilizing the organization's M365 backup platform (currently Kobalt/Commvault-based solutions).
  • Ensure data protection and recovery processes align with organizational standards.
  • Participate in platform maintenance, upgrades, and operational improvement initiatives.
Troubleshooting & Support
  • Serve as the escalation point for complex Microsoft 365 issues.
  • Provide Tier 3 technical support for collaboration, messaging, and content management services.
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement long-term corrective actions.
Documentation & Knowledge Management
  • Create and maintain detailed technical documentation for:
  • Architecture
  • Configurations
  • Governance Standards
  • Operational Procedures
  • System Integrations
  • Ensure documentation is accurate, comprehensive, and kept current.
  • Contribute to knowledge transfer and team enablement activities.
Team Collaboration
  • Participate in Digital Workplace team meetings and department initiatives.
  • Partner with Infrastructure, Security, Service Desk, and project teams to support organizational objectives.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship where appropriate.

  • Experience managing Group Policies and Microsoft 365 administrative controls.
  • Demonstrated ability to create thorough and accurate technical documentation.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex Microsoft 365 issues in enterprise environments.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills. - Deep expertise with Microsoft Purview, including:

  • Experience within healthcare or other highly regulated industries.
  • Knowledge of enterprise backup and recovery solutions supporting Microsoft 365.

  • SC-400 Information Protection Administrator
  • SC-300 Identity and Access Administrator
