Job summary

Solaris Energy Infrastructure, Inc. in Houston, TX, seeks a Microgrid Automation Engineer to design, configure, and commission automation systems for utility-scale microgrids. You will work with Ignition SCADA, DCS, and PLCs across the full project lifecycle.

The role requires hands-on technical work, strong problem-solving, and collaboration with contractors, engineers, IT, and operations teams. Travel to project sites will be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Control, Automation Engineering or related field.
• 3–8 years of automation, instrumentation, or control systems engineering in power/energy sector.
• Experience with Ignition SCADA platform (Inductive Automation).
• Experience with industrial DCS/PLC platforms.
• Willingness to travel to project sites for commissioning and field support.

Responsibilities

• Assist in development and maintenance of SCADA applications and HMI interfaces using Ignition.
• Configure data points, alarms, trends, and dashboards within Ignition SCADA.
• Develop scripts and automation tools using Python or Java for custom logic and reporting.
• Create and optimize SQL queries for SCADA data storage and reporting.
• Support integration of PLCs/RTUs/meters into Ignition via OPC-UA, Modbus, MQTT, DNP3, Ethernet/IP.
• Assist in testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of SCADA and HMI systems on-site and remotely.
