Job Description Summary

The Draper Microfabrication Supervisor 2 is a key member of our operations team. As the Supervisor 2, you will be an operationally critical player in the microfab, which develops and manufactures next-generation and application-specific sensors and devices. The microfab focuses on inertial MEMs, but also develops solutions leveraging photonics, microfluidics, novel materials and 3D integration, including interposer and wafer level packaging (WLP) concepts. The supervisor 2 will support the delivery of high reliability inertial MEMS sensors by responding to, and fully supporting, production. The job requires integration of multidisciplinary information from program management, engineering management, facilities, mission assurance, and process engineering to meet critical customers’ needs. The supervisor 2 will work closely with technical staff, equipment specialists and technicians, serving as a bridge to translate staff needs to work plans with complex constraints.

  • Management of trainings, cross-trainings and resource allocation to assure effective program support.
  • Complying with documentation standards for production.
  • Work with Mission Assurance to keep documentation up to date including process change notifications and corrective actions.
  • Oversee the execution of corrective actions.
  • Ensure maintenance of a quality system to contract requirements.
  • Analyze and model Fab capacity with emphasis on identifying bottlenecks and throughput challenge areas, working with the engineering and maintenance teams to identify and implement mitigation strategies and potential improvement using Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Collaborate and organize information with other operational functions, including planning for materials/consumables, preventative maintenance for lab equipment, and ensuring employees are current with required training and certification.
  • Day to day management and communication of production needs to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide periodic updates to engineering leadership as necessary.
  • Foster teamwork and accountability with staff.
  • Working closely with programmatic and technical management to manage Work in Progress (WIP) flow in the fabrication facility.
  • Use Lean Manufacturing principles to improve manufacturing operations related to yield, on-time delivery, and cutting costs.
  • Willingness to work shift hours, particularly early hours.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
  • Must demonstrate initiative and problem solving with a focus on quality and schedule.
  • Possess excellent organization, prioritization, and written/oral communication skill.
