Job summary

Chesapeake Urology is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technologist - Microbiology to perform plating, isolation, and identification of microorganisms in clinical specimens. You will process isolates on automated systems, verify results, and report findings in the LIS.

The role supports QC, instrument maintenance, and regulatory compliance. Qualified candidates will have a BS in Medical Technology or related science, ASCP MLS/MLT, and at least 1 year in a microbiology lab.

Qualifications

• BS in Medical Technology preferred; or BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology, or Associate degree in a Laboratory Science or Medical Technology.
• ASCP certification or equivalent (MLS/MLT) required/verified prior to employment.
• Minimum of 1 year experience in clinical Microbiology Lab; MLS/MLT certification preferred.
• Ability to work some weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Performs microbiology duties including plating, isolating, and identifying bacteria in body fluids and rectal swabs.
• Processes isolates on automated identification and susceptibility equipment; maintains QC and documentation.
• Reports results in LIS; keeps logs and records; assists Lab Manager and monitors inventory.
• Maintains instrument calibration and performs routine maintenance per manufacturer and department protocols.
