Job summary

UAB Medicine in Birmingham, AL is seeking a laboratory assistant to support the microbiology lab’s preparation, distribution, cataloging, and storage of specimens for testing, while following identifications and quality controls.

You will work closely with laboratory staff, pathologists, and infectious disease providers in a high-volume, learning-focused environment, gaining exposure to bacteriology, mycology, and mycobacteriology as you contribute to patient-focused diagnostics.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• BLS from the American Heart Association may be required or obtained within 30 days of employment.

Responsibilities

• To perform all duties related to the preparation, distribution, cataloging, and storage of lab specimens for testing.
• To adhere to departmental specimen identification policies and quality controls.
• To utilize lab and hospital information systems and provide general administrative support to the laboratory staff in support of laboratory operations, such as filing, record maintenance, responding to client calls, and mail delivery.

Education

High School diploma or equivalent

BLS certification (AHA) may be required within 30 days
