What You’ll Do

As an Manage School Nurse Program you will report to the Director, Professional Services & Business Development (BHV). Responsibilities include the overall management of South Bend Community School Corporation (SBCSC) school nurse program staff and operations. You will maintain quality health care standards according to established policies, procedures and regulations. You will function as Health Services Coordinator as defined by the Indiana Administrative Code governing student health services.

Manage School Nurse Program Job Responsibilities

• Lead and manage all aspects of the school nursing program to ensure quality patient care, compliance, and operational excellence.
• Recruit, onboard, train, mentor, and evaluate school nursing staff.
• Conduct competency assessments, performance evaluations, and corrective action as needed.
• Monitor clinical quality and compliance through regular school site visits.
• Develop, implement, and maintain student health policies, procedures, and programs.
• Serve as a liaison between school nurses, administrators, parents, healthcare providers, and community agencies.
• Oversee health education, disease prevention, and wellness initiatives for students and staff.
• Investigate incidents, complaints, and service concerns and implement improvement plans.
• Manage state-required health reporting, immunization tracking, and communicable disease monitoring.
• Prepare operational reports, maintain records, and support budget management.
• Ensure adequate staffing, supplies, equipment, and resources across assigned schools.
• Lead quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and customer satisfaction.
• Provide direct school nursing support as needed to address staffing shortages.

What You Bring

As a Manage School Nurse Program, this position requires advanced clinical expertise and demonstrated competency in nursing assessments, patient care procedures, treatments, and clinical techniques. The role demands strong leadership and management skills to effectively supervise, motivate, and support staff while fostering collaboration and teamwork. Candidates must possess excellent organizational abilities to plan, implement, and monitor programs, operations, policies, and procedures. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills are essential for interpreting data, preparing reports, and resolving operational and clinical challenges. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills are required to build and maintain positive relationships with principals, students, families, community members, and other stakeholders. The position also requires the ability to foster rapport and ongoing support across diverse groups while utilizing computer applications, including email, word processing, and spreadsheet software, to support effective communication and operational management.

Required Qualifications

• The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing with a valid RN license to practice in the State of Indiana.
• Three to five years of related health care experience in nursing education, public health, community nursing, pediatrics or home health required.
• Prior management/supervisory experience strongly preferred.
• Must have and maintain current CPR certification.
• A valid driver's license and a good driving record are required.

Working Conditions

• Works in an office or school environment.
• Travel within the SBCSC district is required.
• Will assume "on call" responsibilities.
