Job summary

Basis is seeking a senior accounting leader to oversee month-end close, GAAP compliance, and external reporting for a fast-growing tech company with flexible work options across the U.S. and Canada.

You will mentor the accounting team, partner with FP&A and tax, lead the annual audit, and drive process improvements, including AI-enabled automation, while ensuring accuracy of the general ledger and financial statements.

Qualifications

• Comprehensive knowledge of U.S. GAAP.
• Active CPA license.
• Ability to lead accounting team and manage cross-functional partners.
• Experience with external audits and SEC reporting.
• Experience using AI tools to improve efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Guide accounting and accounting operations through month-end close, ensuring revenue and costs are recorded accurately.
• Mentor and lead the Accounting team, supporting career development and skill expansion.
• Lead the annual audit with internal and external auditors.
• Coordinate preparation of U.S. GAAP financial statements and footnotes.
• Analyze accounting guidance for complex topics and communicate implications to auditors.
• Identify process improvements and implement AI-driven automation.
• Own the chart of accounts, general ledger, and financial statements.
• Collaborate with FP&A on budgets and forecasts.

• Guiding the Accounting and accounting operations teams through month-end close, including ensuring revenue and costs are accurately recorded; preparing, reviewing, and approving journal entries in a timely manner; preparing and reviewing balance sheet reconciliations; identifying opportunities to shorten the close process; and partnering with FP&A and tax on month-end reports and close deliverables
• Mentoring and leading the Accounting team by supporting career development, removing roadblocks, encouraging team members to expand their skills and take on new challenges, and helping them succeed in their day-to-day work
• Leading the annual audit by partnering with internal and external auditors throughout the year to support compliance with applicable standards
• Coordinating the preparation of U.S. GAAP financial statements, footnotes, and other external reporting deliverables
• Analyzing, researching, and documenting relevant accounting guidance and interpretations to determine the Company’s accounting approach for complex topics, including equity, share-based compensation, leases, revenue recognition, and business combinations; preparing accounting memos; and proactively reviewing accounting implications with the Company’s auditors, including the impact of newly issued accounting standards and SEC reporting rules
• Identifying areas for process improvement, partnering with appropriate stakeholders, and implementing improvements independently, including the use of AI tools and automation to reduce manual effort across the Accounting team
• Owning the hierarchy, scalability, and accuracy of the chart of accounts, general ledger, and financial statements, including decision-making over transaction classification and recording
• Serving as a liaison with FP&A on related tasks, including monthly and annual budget forecasts

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE

• Comprehensive knowledge of U.S. GAAP
• Active CPA license
• Confidence communicating financial results and accounting implications to relevant stakeholders
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and partner with management to establish appropriate deadlines
• Strong organizational and prioritization skills, with the ability to work independently and collaborate cross-functionally to meet deadlines
• Understanding of internal controls and experience creating process documentation
• 2+ years of experience managing an accounting team
• 8+ years of accounting experience
• Experience using AI tools, such as Microsoft Copilot or similar large language models, to improve efficiency
• Thoughtful approach to collaboration, process design, and decision-making that prioritizes equity, access, and continuous learning
• Commitment to creating inclusive, respectful environments where all voices are valued and supported
