Position Summary

Leidos is hiring licensed behavioral health professionals to join our Military and Family Life Counselor (MFLC) program as Mission Ready Reserve counselors to support Goodfellow AFB, TX. The role provides non‑medical support—including counseling, consultation, and outreach—to military families, helping them navigate military life adjustments and prevent challenges before they arise. Candidates must have the flexibility to pick up shifts locally and potentially travel for short‑term coverage. Work periods vary from 2–3 months to 6–9 months.

Responsibilities

• Face‑to‑face counseling to military service members and their families (individual, couples, family, and children).
• Visibility at assignment, supporting military‑connected students, parents, and staff.
• Recommend appropriate referrals and handoffs to military and community resources based on clinical skills.
• Offer presentations on social skills development and social‑emotional learning crucial for early childhood development.
• Promote creativity and positivity through approved materials.
• Build rapport with service members, spouses, and children by attending installation and community events.
• Help children with transition adjustments, such as a new school and a new home.
• Participate in regular in‑service training or other contract activities as assigned.
• Communicate information regarding trends and issues at assigned installation to Team Leads.

Additional Job Duties

• Respond to emergent situations in any location on a military installation.
• Traverse long distances to indoor and outdoor locations, including uneven terrain and weather conditions.
• Travel to locations outside of a military base in various physical environments.
• Comply with site‑specific requirements to work at designated locations.

Work Environment

At the Department of Defense’s direction, duties are performed in multiple indoor locations (approximately 60%) and outdoor locations (approximately 40%). Indoor sites include military installations, schools, or child development centers. Outdoor sites may involve uneven grass, gravel, or dirt, stair ascents/descents, and exposure to the weather. Child development centers often involve sitting on the floor to interact with children for up to two hours at a time.

Licensure Portability

Under the recent National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), licensed MFLCs may provide non‑medical counseling services to military families at any U.S. state, the District of Columbia, or a U.S. territory, regardless of the state of licensure. A counselor may hold any independent and clinical license recognized by the Secretary of Defense for non‑medical counseling services.

Minimum Requirements

• A master’s degree or higher in Behavioral Health Professions (MS/MSW/MA/PhD).
• Valid independent license in the mental health field from any U.S. state or territory (e.g., LCSW, MHC, MFT, LPCC, Psychologist).
• U.S. citizenship.
• Ability to pass a basic background check, Child National Agency Check, and NACI/CNACI clearance (Public Trust clearance).
