Job Title

MFLC Assignment Ready Counselor (ARC)

Overview

Licensed mental health clinicians, including counselors, therapists or social workers, will provide onsite behavioral health support to military service members and families across a range of contexts including on‑demand events, surges and summer camps.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide non‑medical, short‑term counseling to adults, children and youth at military installations and schools.
• Deliver brief therapy, assessment, action planning, referral to resources, and follow‑up as needed.
• Offer training and health‑and‑wellness presentations, participate in health fairs, and support base/community activities.
• Enter activity data daily via smart‑phone or web application, ensuring accurate records and confidentiality.
• Maintain a presence in child‑care or youth settings and be available for parents, staff and students.
• Collaborate with installation and branch points of contact (POC) to ensure services are delivered within scope.
• Respond to emergent situations and critical incidents as directed by the POC and program manager.
• Participate in regular in‑services/training, quality‑improvement committees, supervision, and reporting.

Eligibility & Qualifications

• Master’s degree from an accredited graduate program in a mental‑health related field or social work.
• Current independent licensure as a mental health counselor, therapist or social worker in any U.S. state.
• U.S. citizenship and fluency in English.
• Advanced knowledge of brief therapy and solution‑focused counseling methods.
• Ability to work with minimal instruction, adapt to new environments and manage short‑term flexible assignments (weekends, weeks, or months).
• Demonstrated ability to build rapport quickly with service members, families, students and staff.
• For CYB positions: meet the Magellan MFLC CYB criteria and have specialty experience with child and adolescent development.
• For school assignments: have prior experience working in a school setting.
• Willingness to accept assignments of undefined length, including full‑time surges and on‑demand assignments.
• Reliable travel within installations, including traversing challenging terrain, and tolerant of outdoor weather conditions.

Additional Requirements

• Maintain appropriate immunization and vaccination records as required by the host installation.
• Demonstrate strong knowledge of DoD protocols related to duty to warn, restricted reporting and confidentiality.
• Possess an active driver’s license (valid in state).
• Current licensing must meet state or customer‑specific requirements.
• Experience or familiarity with military culture and prior military service is desirable.

Compensation & Benefits

This position is a Service Contract Act (SCA)‑covered role. Pay and benefits are specified in the applicable wage determination agreement.
