Job summary

Job Overview

This position is for an independently licensed Mental Health Counselor, Therapist, or Social Worker to serve as a MFLC Assignment Ready Counselor (ARC) on a part‑time, on‑demand basis. The ARC will provide short‑term, surge, or on‑demand behavioral health services to military service members, their families, and personnel in schools, camps, or other military installations.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver adult, child, and youth behavioral (CYB) counseling services, including assessment, brief counseling, action planning, and referral to resources.
  • Provide non‑medical counseling; conduct training and wellness presentations; participate in health fairs and installation activities.
  • Consult with parents, teachers, and installation command on behavioral health matters.
  • Maintain daily counselor activity records via smartphone or web application while ensuring confidentiality.
  • Co‑operate with installation and military branch points of contact (POC) to ensure program scope and needs are met.
  • Serve on quality improvement committees, attend regular training, and provide supervisory input as required.
  • Respond to critical incidents and special requests per the POC and OSD program manager.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree from an accredited graduate program in mental health, social work, or a related field.
  • Current independent licensure as a Mental Health Counselor, Therapist, or Social Worker in any U.S. state.
  • Ability to work full‑time on assignments ranging from a weekend to two weeks with short notice.
  • Excellent rapport‑building skills with service personnel, families, students, parents, and co‑workers.
  • Adaptability to varying work environments, locations, and schedules; capable of working independently with minimal instruction.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; proficient in English.
  • Advanced knowledge of brief and solution‑focused counseling methods.
  • Prior military service, military family background, or strong familiarity with military culture preferred.
  • For CYB roles, must meet Magellan MFLC CYB criteria for experience with children and youth and specialty in child and adolescent development/psychology.
  • US citizenship required.
Benefits & Compensation

This is a Service Contract Act (SCA) covered position. Pay rate and health and welfare allowance are specified in the applicable wage determination agreement.
