POSITION OVERVIEW AND PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS):

The Metrology Technician II supports the Technical Information, Administrative, and Logistics Services (TIALS) Contract, at NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, OH.

Responsible for the calibration and certifying test equipment to technical specifications in one of the major equipment classifications of electronic, electro-mechanical, pressure systems, flow, mechanical, photo-optical and physical/dimensional measuring.

Primary/Major Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

  • Support the Technical Information, Administrative, and Logistics Services (TIALS) Contract, at NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, OH.
  • Independently test, calibrate, and repair electrical, mechanical, electromechanical, and electronic measuring, recording, and indicating instruments and equipment for conformance to established standards.
  • Identify magnitude of error sources contributing to uncertainty of results to determine reliability of measurement process.
  • Provide training to apprentice technicians on metrology principles and resolving technical problems.
  • Plan sequence of testing and calibration procedures for instruments and equipment.
  • Set up standard and special purpose laboratory equipment to test, evaluate, and calibrate instruments.
  • Disassemble instruments and inspect components for defects.
  • Measure parts for conformity with specifications, using precision instruments.
  • Reassemble and calibrate instruments and equipment.
  • Complete all calibration documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
  • If authorized, conduct Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) inspections.
  • If authorized, perform the duties of the Responsible Area Coordinator (RAC).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

AS degree in a technical discipline plus 2 to 4 years of relative experience. In lieu of a degree, 6 years of production experience in a commercial laboratory or equivalent industry may be substituted.

  • Ability to interface effectively with other personnel.
  • Ability to physically lift 50 lbs.
  • Proficient in Excel, writing macros and formulas.
  • Solid analytical skills and statistical processes and methods.
  • Solid communication and teamwork.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 17025 standards and ANSI Z540.1 and 3 Standards.
