Job summary

Newport News Shipbuilding is seeking a metrology engineer to apply calibration systems and 3D measurement techniques, using Photogrammetry, Total Stations, Laser Trackers, and CMMs to measure characteristics of objects. You will plan and execute measurement surveys from drawings and analyze the data to support engineering decisions.

The role also involves developing reliability studies, evaluating design options, and recommending testing methods to improve product reliability.

Qualifications

A program graduation certificate may substitute for an Associate's degree with 3 years of related experience.
2 years of related experience can substitute for Associate's degree.
4 years of non-related experience can substitute for Associate's degree.

Responsibilities

Utilizes metrology calibration systems and techniques to measure characteristics of objects.
Performs measurement surveys using Photogrammetry, Total Stations, Laser Trackers, CMMs or other 3D instruments.
Uses 3D model based software and drawings to plan and execute surveys and analyze data.
Develops, coordinates, and conducts technical reliability studies and evaluations of engineering design.
Recommends design or test methods utilizing metrology methodologies for reliability.
