Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in physical sciences or related technical discipline.
• 8+ years in GxP-regulated labs, metrology or instrumentation maintenance.
• Experience troubleshooting, repairing, and documenting lab instrumentation.
• Experience authoring technical documentation and validation deliverables.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance, calibration, qualification, and validation of instrumentation.
• Maintain instruments in a validated and compliant state via Preventive maintenance and testing.
• Investigate instrument issues, document findings and implement corrective actions.
• Support qualification and validation of new instrumentation and systems.
• Develop and execute validation protocols and related documentation.
• Maintain instrument records, calibration schedules, maintenance logs, and validation files.
• Collaborate with laboratory, quality, and technical teams to ensure instrumentation reliability.

Job Description

Position Overview

The Metrology Specialist is responsible for the maintenance, calibration, qualification, troubleshooting, and lifecycle management of laboratory instrumentation used in regulated laboratory environments. This role ensures instruments remain compliant, accurate, and operational while supporting quality systems, validation activities, and continuous improvement initiatives. The successful candidate will serve as a technical resource for instrumentation-related activities and collaborate closely with laboratory and quality teams to maintain compliance with GxP requirements.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance, calibration, qualification, and validation activities on routine and advanced laboratory instrumentation in accordance with established procedures and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain laboratory instruments in a validated and compliant state through preventative maintenance, routine testing, troubleshooting, and repair activities.
• Investigate and resolve instrument-related issues, document findings, and implement corrective actions as necessary.
• Support the implementation, qualification, and validation of new laboratory instrumentation and systems.
• Assist in the development and execution of validation protocols, test scripts, and related documentation.
• Ensure all instrumentation activities are accurately documented and completed in compliance with quality system requirements and regulatory expectations.
• Maintain instrument records, calibration schedules, maintenance logs, and validation files.
• Collaborate with laboratory, quality, and technical teams to ensure instrumentation reliability and operational excellence.
• Identify and support process improvement initiatives that enhance efficiency, compliance, and instrument performance.
• Provide technical guidance, training, and mentoring to laboratory personnel on instrumentation-related procedures and best practices.
• Prioritize and complete assigned projects and tasks to meet departmental timelines and business needs.
• Promote a culture of quality, collaboration, safety, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with ISO 17025 calibration programs and measurement uncertainty assessments.
• Experience supporting pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or contract laboratory environments.
• Familiarity with computerized laboratory systems and instrument qualification processes.

Basic Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Physical Sciences, Engineering Technology, Instrumentation, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in GxP-regulated laboratories, metrology, calibration, instrumentation maintenance, or related technical support functions.
• Equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience may be considered (e.g., 12+ years of directly related experience).
• Experience troubleshooting, repairing, qualifying, and documenting laboratory instrumentation.
• Experience authoring technical documentation, including procedures, protocols, investigations, and reports.
• Experience developing and executing validation deliverables within a regulated GxP environment.
• Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship.

Additional Information

Position is Full-time, Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., with overtime as needed. Candidates currently living within a commutable distance of Lancaster, Pennsylvania
