Job summary

General Atomics Advanced Fabrication Technology in Torrey Pines is seeking a Software Engineer with 5–10 years of experience in metrology and CMM software development. This role develops software tools, integrates CMMs with databases and ERP systems, and builds automated reporting for inspection workflows.

Onsite work (90%) enables close collaboration with manufacturing, quality, and engineering teams. The candidate should have programming experience in C++, Python, or C#, strong GD&T knowledge,

Qualifications

• Typically requires an engineering degree with four+ years for bachelor, or two+ years for master, or equivalent experience.
• Preferred: degrees in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
• Hands-on experience with metrology equipment (operation, programming support, or data integration).
• Proficiency in programming languages used in engineering (C++, C#, Python).
• Experience with databases (SQL/NoSQL) and data structures for measurement data.
• Working knowledge of GD&T and its application to inspection and measurement.
• Strong problem-solving skills and cross-functional collaboration on shop floor and lab.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain software tools for metrology and CMM inspection workflows.
• Integrate CMMs with internal systems (databases, MES, PLM, ERP) to streamline data collection and reporting.
• Develop automation routines to improve CMM programming efficiency and throughput.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and design engineering to translate GD&T into robust software solutions.
• Create automated reporting, dashboards, and data visualization for measurement data.
• Troubleshoot software and system issues related to CMM operation and data transfer.
• Participate in code reviews, configuration management, and documentation of software designs and tests.
• Provide training and technical support to engineers, technicians, and operators on metrology software.
