Job summary

Shape Corp. in Trenton, AL seeks a Metrology Lab leader to oversee development and management of lab operations, driving quality, continuous improvement and customer satisfaction for the laboratory.

You will lead CMM Operators and Programmers, train staff on dimensional inspection and layout results, and ensure calibration and certification of test equipment for accuracy and compliance. The role emphasizes mentoring, process adherence, KPI tracking, and safe, compliant lab operations.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3–5 years quality experience in a manufacturing environment.
• 1–3 years supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience with dimensional inspection and CMM preferred.
• Proficient with MS Office and data reporting tools.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership, direction, and support to CMM Operators and Programmers.
• Train and develop Shape associates and internal customers on dimensional inspection and layout results.
• Assist with calibration and certification of inspection equipment for accuracy and compliance.
• Communicate inspection data and results to ensure understanding and interpretation by staff.
• Mentor metrology staff in measurement practices, equipment use, and procedures.
• Promote adherence to metrology procedures, quality standards, and laboratory practices.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve measurement accuracy and efficiency.
• Coordinate external lab services as needed.
• Foster a safe work environment by following Shape Health and Safety standards.
• Lead daily Top5 meetings and guide team on daily expectations.
• Promote Shape core values and systems.
• Identify and drive corrective and preventive actions.
• Staff Management: conduct performance evaluations and develop subordinates.
• Set department direction and ensure accountability to standards and objectives.
• Create and maintain system metrics and KPI reporting for calibration, measurement plan, and maintenance.
• Audit current quality systems for compliance and opportunities for improvement.
• Coordinate communications between shifts and train backups for key tasks.
