Job summary

Daimler Truck North America in Detroit is seeking an entry-level Metrology Engineer to support prototype powertrain metrology activities. You will assist with setup, data collection, analysis, and documentation of precision measurements for axles, engines, and transmissions.

You will collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to develop measurement methods, verify equipment, and contribute to continuous improvement of metrology tools and processes. Location: Detroit, MI.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, or a related engineering field.
0-3 years of relevant engineering, manufacturing, metrology, or quality experience.
Basic knowledge of metrology, manufacturing, quality systems, or engineering principles.
Familiarity with engineering drawings, GD&T, dimensional inspection, and statistical analysis concepts.
Basic CAD experience (e.g., Siemens NX, AutoCAD, or similar).
Product knowledge in axles, electric axles, diesel engines, and transmissions.
Understanding of measurement equipment and quality assurance practices.
Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to analyze data and communicate technical information effectively.
Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office applications.
Strong teamwork, organization, and communication skills.
Self-motivated with a willingness to learn new technologies and engineering processes.
Exceptional Candidates Might Have Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, Computer Science Engineering, or related fields (ABET Accredited University).
Familiarity with CMM equipment, vision systems, or other dimensional measurement technologies.
Experience using CAD software and interpreting engineering drawings.
Exposure to scripting or programming languages such as Visual Basic, Python, or C++.
Knowledge of quality systems such as ISO 9001 or IATF 16949.
Experience with data analysis and technical report writing.
Basic understanding of automotive, powertrain, or manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

Methodology Development: Support the development and implementation of engineering test methodologies, fixtures, and procedures utilizing specialized measurement equipment.
Measurement Systems & Data Analysis: Collect, analyze, and document measurement data while preparing reports and summaries for engineering teams.
Equipment Programming, Calibration & Maintenance: Assist with programming and operating measurement equipment while following established standards and procedures.
Cross Functional Collaboration & Technical Leadership: Work closely with product engineering, quality, manufacturing, and laboratory personnel to support measurement requirements throughout the product development and validation process.
Standards, Procedures & Operational Excellence: Support the creation and maintenance of work instructions, procedures, and documentation that promote consistency and efficiency.
Technology Strategy & Onsite Validation: Assist with evaluating new measurement technologies, equipment, and processes that may improve testing capabilities.
