Job summary

Gulfstream Aerospace in Savannah, GA seeks a Metrology Engineer II to implement, program, and support metrology equipment in tooling, development, and production. You will work under minimal supervision to improve designs and manufacturing methods related to tooling and assembly.

Responsibilities include developing measurement programs, collaborating with engineering and operations, and creating standardized reporting. Strong knowledge of metrology software and CATIA/PLM tools is advantageous.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 18 months of Metrology/Manufacturing/Automation experience.
• Knowledge of metrology software and 3D CAD/CAM tools is required.

Responsibilities

• Develop measurement plans and processes from aircraft engineering and tooling designs.

Unique Skills:

Skills with scanning or laser trackers a plus. Ability to operate Metrolog X4 or X4V5 software preferred but other 3D software such as Spatial Analyzer, Verisurf, Geomagic, etc. are acceptable as well.Knowledge with Teamcenter, Smarteam, and Catia are a plus

Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related curriculum required or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. 18 months of Metrology Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Automation Engineering or related technical experience.

Position Purpose:

Under minimal supervision, prepare, conduct, and evaluate for the implementation, programming and support of metrology equipment in tooling, program development and production. Assist with the improvements and problem solving for design and manufacturing issues related to tooling, material fabrication and assembly methods.

Job Description

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential Functions:

1. Interpret & consolidate aircraft engineering, tooling designs and production requirements, to develop optimized measurement plans and processes. .
2. Under minimal supervision, develop programing for all measurement equipment that will be used in the development, manufacture and support of Gulfstream aircraft. .
3. Collaborate with engineering, tooling, manufacturing engineering and operations to determine optimal manufacturing procedures.
4. Assist in developing and documenting standards for the handling and utilization of metrology equipment. .
5. Create standardized inspection reports through the utilization of Metrologic software.
6. Study and optimize equipment performance for increased capacity and equipment efficiency.
7. Interact and collaborate with equipment vendors on warranty repairs, necessary improvements and upgrades.
8. Set up and utilize precision measuring tools; validates measurement results for accuracy and repeatability.
9. Provide and/or contribute to the documentation of new or recent processes involving metrology techniques or equipment.
10. Coordinate the implementation of projects between multiple organizations.
11. Support all Safety, Sustainability and Ergonomic Initiatives.

Additional Functions:

1. Work to improve daily processes, and ensures all work meets customer requirements. .
2. Assist tool shop as needed, during periodic and conformity Inspections. .
3. Provide input toward the selection of metrology equipment and software. .

Perform other duties as assigned.

Other Requirements:

1. Extensive knowledge of metrology equipment, software and current measurement techniques.
2. Knowledge 3D CAD/CATIA modeling and an understanding of GD&T.
3. Knowledge of Lean and/or Six Sigma principles.
