Job summary

Bombardier US Aerostructures seeks a Methods Engineer to advance metrology-driven manufacturing improvements. You will analyze GD&T data, coordinate tooling and metrology activities, and apply project management principles to drive capability and efficiency.

This role emphasizes hands-on measurement using portable systems and laser tracking, with collaboration across engineering teams to deliver quality, traceable inspection results in a heavy aviation environment.

Qualifications

  • 1-3 years in Metrology, Methods, Material Planning or related area.
  • Knowledge of Project Management principles.
  • Broad knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Ability to coordinate tooling-related activities and metrology.
  • Understanding of tool design concepts, estimates and turnaround times.
  • Apply advanced technical principles to develop new concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze engineering models, GD&T intent, and laser inspection results to solve manufacturing challenges.
  • Manage daily metrology workflows to improve efficiency and resource use.
  • Perform precision measurements using portable metrology systems and maintain inspection records.
  • Assist with test plans, capability assessments, and new inspection technologies.

What are your contributions to the team?
  • Strong knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and understanding of tool design concepts, estimates, and span times.

  • Experience with metrology equipment, such as laser trackers, portable arms, and laser radar, and measurement software, preferably Spatial Analyzer.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, with strong data collection and statistical skills.

  • Develop and document best practices to support manufacturing technology process improvements.

  • Analyze engineering models, GD&T intent, and laser inspection results while solving complex manufacturing challenges.

  • Manage daily metrology workflows to enhance efficiency and resource utilization.

  • Perform precision measurements using portable metrology systems and maintain accurate inspection records.

  • Assist with test plans, capability assessments, and the introduction of innovative inspection technologies.

How to thrive in this role? Skills, knowledge & experience:
  • You must have at minimum 1-3 years of experience in Metrology, Methods, Material Planning, or related area.

  • You must have Knowledge of Project Management principles.

  • You must have a broad knowledge and understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.

  • You must be able to coordinate, control and maintain tooling-related activities and metrology activities.

  • You must have an understanding of tool design concepts, tool design estimates and turnaround times.

  • Knowledge: Apply advanced technical principles, theories, and concepts. Contributes to the development of new principles and concepts.

  • Problem Solving: Work on unusually complex technical problems and provide solutions which are highly innovative and ingenious.

  • Impact: Develops advanced technological ideas and guides their development into the final product.

  • Liaison: Serves as organization spokesperson on advanced projects. Acts as advisor to management and customers providing technical assistance to obtain the desired results.

  • Project Management: Focuses on planning and organizing a project and its resources. This includes identifying and managing the lifecycle to be used, applying it to the user-centered design process, formulating the project team, and efficiently guiding the team through all phases until project completion.
