Job summary

Montefiore’s Substance Abuse Treatment Program (SATP) in New York seeks a Substance Abuse Specialist to provide individual and group counseling, psychosocial evaluations, and case management for patients in chemical dependency treatment.

Requirements include a Bachelor's degree and CASAC or related license; at least 1 year of addictions counseling experience, preferably with methadone clients; strong knowledge of substance abuse counseling and ability to work with adults and older adults.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree is required.
• CASAC or license in social work, mental health counseling or related field is also required.
• Minimum 1 year of work experience as an addictions counselor (preferably with methadone clients) is required.
• Knowledge and ability to integrate historical and current patient issues.

Responsibilities

• Screen patients to ensure appropriateness for care.
• Complete biopsychosocial evaluation utilizing all available data, including interviews with patients and families and conferring with interdisciplinary associates.
• Develop, implement, and validate treatment plans/discharges in a timely manner in collaboration with patient, family and interdisciplinary team.
• Provide chemical dependency counseling to individuals, groups, couples and families.
• Document client progress as delineated in program policies and procedures and regulatory bodies.
• Participate in staff conferences and other meetings.
• Participate in relevant performance improvement activities, including trainings and conferences.
• Provide community outreach and education.
