Job summary

Montefiore is seeking a Methadone Counselor to provide counseling and coordinate services within the Substance Abuse Treatment Program in New York. The role focuses on psychosocial assessments, treatment planning, and methadone-related case management for a diverse patient caseload.

You will conduct individual, group, and family counseling, monitor treatment progress, and assist with entitlements and referrals. Regular supervision and documentation are required to support recovery efforts.

Qualifications

• One year of experience as an addiction counselor, preferably with methadone clients.
• BA or BS degree required; CASAC or related license required.
• Knowledge of government programs and entitlements for patients.
• Familiarity with computer software and data entry.
• Experience recognizing signs of neglect or abuse (children, adults, elderly).

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive psychosocial counseling to individuals, groups, and families.
• Develop, implement, and review treatment plans.
• Coordinate services within the clinic for counseling caseloads.
• Monitor response to methadone treatment and conduct toxicology reviews.
• Enter patient data into HRA/STARS database and update records regularly.
• Assist with referrals to shelters, detox, legal counsel, and other services.
• Attend team meetings and supervision; present cases as needed.
• Ensure billable counseling services are billed and follow up on payments.
