Job summary

Gray Television, Inc. is seeking a skilled meteorologist to join WSFA's award-winning First Alert Weather Team in Montgomery, Alabama. The successful candidate will analyze scientific data and models to deliver accurate weather forecasts across multiple platforms, including digital and social media.

This role requires a degree in Meteorology or related fields, with at least two years of broadcast experience preferred. The meteorologist will work closely with the Chief Meteorologist and news staff during severe weather events.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years of experience as a broadcast meteorologist preferred.
  • Familiarity with operational radar systems.
  • Seal of the National Weather Association and/or American Meteorological Society preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze raw scientific data and models for accurate weather forecasts.
  • Create compelling presentations of the weather forecast for various media.
  • Identify and communicate the 'weather story of the day'.
  • Forecast and track severe weather accurately.

For nearly 70 years, WSFA 12 News has been the dominant television and digital media station in Montgomery, Alabama. WSFA 12 News serves a 15‑county DMA and is the most trusted source for news, weather, and sports information on‑air and online.

Job Summary

WSFA is looking for a meteorologist to join our award‑winning First Alert Weather Team. This meteorologist will work closely with the Chief Meteorologist, news managers, and producers to provide comprehensive weather coverage for newscasts, streaming updates, digital and social content, and severe weather coverage.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Analyze raw scientific data, models, and other available information to create accurate weather forecasts for our viewing area.
  • Create a compelling, conversational presentation of the weather forecast for broadcast, streaming, digital, and social media audiences.
  • Identify and communicate the "weather story of the day" to a cross‑platform audience.
  • Accurately forecast and track severe weather.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • At least two years of experience as a broadcast meteorologist preferred.
  • Operational radar knowledge and excellent command of the WSI MAX system preferred.
  • Familiarity with the Baron Lynx system.
  • BS/BA in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, Communications, Journalism, or equivalent background.
  • Seal of the National Weather Association and/or American Meteorological Society preferred, but not required.
  • Flexibility with respect to scheduling and/or assigned work shifts, especially considering the unpredictable nature of weather events.
  • Proficiency in producing written weather content for our digital platforms.
  • A clean driving record, ability to drive in various weather conditions, and a valid driver’s license are required.
