Job summary

WGEM, part of Gray Media, is seeking a Meteorologist to join our team in Quincy, IL. You will prepare and present weather forecasts for TV and web, and creatively use weather graphics to inform viewers.

The ideal candidate has a meteorology degree, strong written and spoken communication, the ability to work independently, and a valid driver’s license. You may be on-call during severe weather and collaborate with news staff.

Qualifications

  • Degree in meteorology or similar certification.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and speaking.
  • Able to take initiative and work independently.
  • Driver's license required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and present television weather forecasts and web content.
  • Creatively use weather graphics systems.
  • Maintain a positive newsroom atmosphere and adhere to professional standards.
  • Substitute as needed on other weather segments.
  • Coordinate and deliver weather forecasts for radio partners, if applicable.
  • Be on-call as needed during severe weather activity.
  • Shoot, write, and edit content for our digital and broadcast platforms.
  • During newscasts, you may be teamed with a photojournalist for LIVE storytelling.

Job Summary/Description:

WGEM is looking for our next Meteorologist to join our team. If you have a passion for weather and a natural aptitude for sharing information about meteorology with the public, this position is for you!

Duties and responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Prepare and present television weather forecasts and web content.
  • Creatively use weather graphics systems.
  • Maintain a positive newsroom atmosphere and adhere to professional standards.
  • Substitute as needed on other weather segments.
  • Work as a guide to outside groups touring the station.
  • Attend editorial meetings with news staff throughout the day.
  • Coordinate and deliver weather forecasts for radio partners, if applicable.
  • Be on-call as needed during severe weather activity.
  • Shoot, write, and edit content for our digital and broadcast platforms.
  • During newscasts, you may be teamed with a photojournalist for active LIVE storytelling.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Degree in meteorology or similar certification.
  • Ability to effectively communicate through written and spoken forms.
  • Able to take initiative and work independently.
  • Driver's license required
