Job summary

Lynker is seeking a Meteorologist and GIS Developer to support a long-term contract with the Weather Prediction Center, interfacing with NOAA scientists and external partners. The role emphasizes developing forecaster tools for operational and experimental forecasts and advancing IDSS capabilities.

Ideal candidates will work independently to design tools, analyze meteorological data, and contribute to training materials and transitions into operations at NOAA offices.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in meteorology or related earth science.
• Experience with deterministic and ensemble data for hazardous weather.
• Strong GIS experience with GeoTiff/GeoJSON.
• Knowledge of modern web tools and data formats (JSON).
• Proficiency in Python and UNIX/Linux scripting.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate to develop forecast tools for short to medium range time frames.
• Use meteorological expertise to create hazard information tools.
• Develop web applications using modern languages and tools.
• Coordinate with NOAA staff and external researchers on tool development.
• Contribute to publications and attendance at conferences or outreach events.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
• Help transition forecaster tools into NOAA operations.
• Create training materials to transition new tools into operations.
