Job summary

WPDE, part of Sinclair Broadcast Group, invites a meteorologist to join our team in Myrtle Beach, SC. You will forecast, present, and produce weather content for on-air broadcasts and digital platforms, including live coverage during severe weather.

You will issue warnings, create graphics/maps, and report for social media while collaborating with our chief meteorologist and producers to deliver engaging weather storytelling to our viewing audience.

Qualifications

  • Proven forecasting expertise and ability to tell a clear weather story.
  • Strong writing skills for on-air and digital delivery.
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines during live coverage.
  • Ability to craft impactful weather content for social platforms.
  • Bachelor's degree in Meteorology or related field; relevant experience acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Forecast, produce and present weather casts clearly and concisely for TV and digital.
  • Issue warnings, alerts, and report live during weather events with graphics/maps.
  • Create weather stories for digital and social platforms; engage with audience online.
  • Make public appearances to represent the station.
  • Collaborate with producers to select relevant weather content for breaking and routine coverage.

Job description

WPDE in Myrtle Beach, SC has a exciting opportunity for you! The qualified candidate will be responsible for working with our team of meteorologists in the creation of weather segments, live-breaking/severe weather events, and producing weather-related stories and content for our digital and social platforms. Along with the Chief and other Meteorologists, you will be responsible for the content of the weather cast on-air and on our digital platforms. You will present on-air forecasts, issue warnings and alerts, produce graphics and maps, and provide content to digital and social media.

The main day to day responsibilities of the role will include…
  • Forecasting, Producing and Presenting clear and concise weather casts, which tell a story and connect with viewers
  • Issue warnings and alerts, produce graphics and maps, and report live during weather events
  • Utilize social media during severe weather, as well as write weather stories
  • Make public appearances on behalf of the station
  • Work with producers to determine relevant weather content in breaking and everyday situations
What skills do you need to be successful in our role?
  • In Depth Knowledge of forecasting
  • Sharp news judgement and exceptional writing skills
  • Ability to multitask while meeting deadlines and prioritizing tasks
  • Ability to produce impactful content for social media
  • Bachelor's degree in Meteorology, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
  • 2 plus years' experience in weather presentation and reporting preferred
