Job summary

Bilstein Cold Rolled Steel Lp. in Bowling Green, KY is seeking a Metallurgical Technician to perform materials testing and support production workflows. You will release or hold material, ensure safety and 5S in the laboratory, and coordinate with production to maintain efficient material flow.

The role requires 1–3 years in manufacturing, knowledge of cold rolled steel processes, and strong organizational skills. Shifts may rotate to support production needs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree preferred.
• 1-3 years in a manufacturing environment, preferably steel/metal manufacturing.
• Knowledge of production and processing of cold rolled steel is an advantage.
• Clear interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written).
• Strong practical and organizational skills with ability to follow written or oral directions.
• Good scientific and technical background.
• PC skills (Internet/Windows).
• Willing to cover all shifts; rotation may be required.

Responsibilities

• Mechanical testing of steel – tensile, hardness, bend testing per specs.
• Metallographic testing – optical microscopy per specs.
• Chemical testing – operation of mobile optical emission spectrometer.
• Emulsion testing – fat content, saponification, bacteria, iron, chlorides, sulfates, ash.
• Other testing – surface roughness, crown profiles, camber, thickness/width.
• Coordinate with outside test labs for niche testing as needed.
• Prepare samples for testing and mark with order details and process route ID.
• Calibration of testing equipment and hand-held devices; arrange external calibration if needed.
