Job summary

Beehive Industries, LLC is seeking a Metallurgical Technician at our Knoxville, TN facility. You will perform hands-on metallurgical lab activities, prepare and evaluate metal specimens, and conduct routine testing to support materials development and AM process development.

You will collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to deliver reliable data while safely maintaining laboratory operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.
• 1–2 years of hands-on metallurgical laboratory experience in an industrial or testing environment preferred.
• Ability to follow written procedures, safely operate equipment, and document results.
• Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn metallurgical laboratory processes.
• Basic familiarity with characterization equipment such as optical microscopes, SEM, and chemical analysis tools.
• Basic understanding of materials science, metallurgy, and metallographic principles.
• Working knowledge of basic metallographic sample preparation techniques.
• Familiarity with optical microscopy and identifying material characteristics, defects, or abnormalities.
• Familiarity with material testing methods, including tensile testing, hardness testing, and microscopy.
• Basic understanding of metal additive manufacturing processes and metal powders.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to safely operate and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
• Ability to follow procedures and test methods accurately.
• Commitment to producing accurate and repeatable test results.
• Ability to collect, document, and communicate technical data.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine imaging, measurements, and material testing per procedures.
• Prepare samples and metallographic evaluations to support AM activities.
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment with calibration records.
• Support powder characterization and other material testing activities.
• Document results accurately and manage job status.
• Review results for accuracy and escalate issues as needed.
• Maintain a clean, safe lab environment and PPE compliance.
• Assist with safety procedures, inspections, and quality processes.
• Identify opportunities to improve lab processes and equipment utilization.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
