The candidate will document samples, prepare metallographic specimens, perform testing and analyses (e.g., hardness, optical emission spectroscopy, electrical testing, and pressure testing) and assist with maintenance of lab

Qualifications

• Post secondary education with courses relating to failure analysis, metallography, mechanical testing and analysis procedures and equipment.
• Familiarity with metallographic laboratory equipment.
• Knowledge of industrial safety practices and procedures.

• Documentation of samples submitted to the laboratory and during testing (photography, sketches, data in tables/spreadsheets).
• Laboratory preparation for failure analysis, including metallography, testing, and documentation; may include hardness, microhardness, spectroscopy, electrical testing, pressure testing.
• Operate and maintain cutting/sectioning saws, grit blasting, hand and power tools; conduct in-house and field work as needed.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Position Summary

Acuren is seeking a Metallurgical Technician to support operations in West Boylston, MA.

A challenging and rewarding career opportunity exists for Metallurgical Technician to provide failure analysis laboratory processes for a variety of mechanical and materials components.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for documentation of samples submitted to the laboratory and during laboratory testing which can include photography, hand sketches, recording data in tables, worksheets and/or spreadsheets.
• Responsible for laboratory preparation processes relating to failure analysis of a variety of mechanical or materials including metallographic preparation and documentation, interpretations, and testing. May include testing such as hardness and microhardness, optical emissions spectrometry, electrical testing, pressure testing. Includes in-house and field operation work with multiple sample types.
• May also include operations and maintenance of the following: cutting/sectioning saws and cut off wheels, grit blasting, and use of hand and power tools.
• Performs other related duties as required
