Job summary

OceanaGold is seeking a Metallurgical Technician at Haile Gold Mine in the United States. The role ensures safe and efficient operation of lab equipment, supports testing campaigns, and helps optimize the process plant.

You will perform routine maintenance, handle hazardous chemicals safely, collect samples around Haile operations, and write test summaries while contributing to safety and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Experience with mine sample preparation and wet chemistry is beneficial.
• Experience with metallurgical testing equipment is beneficial.
• Prior experience in a lab environment is beneficial.
• Prior experience in an industrial environment is beneficial.
• Working knowledge of computers is required.

Job Description

The Metallurgical (Met) Technician reports to the Senior Metallurgist. This hands-on position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of lab equipment, instruments, testing, and systems.The Met Technician will perform awide variety of job functions in multiple areas within the Met lab and process plant and offsitelaboratory.

• Performs all duties with afocus on safety, environmental stewardship, and best operatingpractices.
• Actively participates in Safety, Health, and Environmental initiatives.
• Seeks to continuously improve work environment.
• Conducts laboratory test campaigns through the use of lab equipment, instruments, and systems according to standard operating procedures and/or directed work instructions from thesupervisor.
• Assists in the optimization of the Process plant through participating in sampling campaigns and other process relatedneeds.
• Must acquire competency in operating lab and mobile equipment and instrumentation in the lab and plant environment.
• Must be able to assess, diagnose and remedy operating variances in asafe and timelymanner.
• Performs routine maintenance and participates in equipment and instrument repairs asnecessary.
• Responsible for safe and effective handling of hazardous chemicals andsolutions.
• Reads meters and gauges, automatic recording devices or performs visual inspections at specified intervals to verify proper operatingconditions.
• Assists in sample collection in all areas around the Haileoperation.
• Analyzes data and writes test summaries asrequired.
• Assist in correction of standard operatingprocedures.
• Visually inspects equipment at periodic intervals to detect malfunctions or need for repair, adjustment or lubrication and reports data to appropriate personnel.
• Other responsibilities as necessary for the successful operation of the Haile ProcessPlant.

Qualifications

Experience:

• Experience with mine sample preparation, wet chemistry methods and instrumentation isbeneficial.
• Experience with metallurgical testing equipment isbeneficial.
• Prior experience in alab environment isbeneficial.
• Prior experience in an industrial environment isbeneficial.

Knowledge:

Working knowledge of computers isrequired.

• Knowledge of Microsoft Office software isrequired.
• Knowledge of lab procedures, equipment and instrumentation isbeneficial.
• Knowledge of industrial treatment processes isbeneficial.
• Knowledge of chemistry or other sciences isbeneficial.

Physical Requirements:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs, talk, hear andsee.
• Must be Fit for Duty: Able to lift and carry 50 lbs overhead, climb ladders, work at heights,etc.
• Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions: wind, rain,sun.
• Work is in asurface mine setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature andhumidity.
• Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in amine environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves, and any other protective equipment asrequired.
