Job summary

United Launch Alliance (ULA) in Decatur, Alabama, is seeking a Metallurgical Engineer to join the PMP Engineering team. You will provide metallurgical support to Production Operations and collaborate with design, quality, and production engineers to resolve material and process issues.

The role requires a BS in Materials Science/Engineering or Metallurgical Engineering and experience with nickel-based superalloys and related processing. Relocation may be available, travel ~10%.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or Metallurgical Engineering.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation).
• Ability to work autonomously and as a part of a collaborative team.
• Experience with metallic materials such as nickel-based superalloys and their processing (heat treatment, forming, welding).
• Experience with Microsoft Office 360.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day metallurgical engineering support to Production Operations.
• Work directly with production engineers, technicians, quality, and design engineers to identify and resolve material and process issues.
• Assist with material testing and characterization required to support production, qualification, and hardware acceptance.
• Perform and support metallurgical laboratory activities including: Metallographic sample preparation, Optical microscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Hardness testing, Microstructural evaluation, Fractography, Material identification and characterization.
• Develop, write, and maintain PMP manufacturing process specifications.
