Job summary

United Launch Alliance (ULA) is seeking a Metallurgical Engineer to join the Parts, Materials, and Processes (PMP) Engineering team in Decatur, Alabama. This role focuses on providing metallurgical support, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and maintaining process specifications for PMP manufacturing.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor of Science in Materials Science/Engineering or Metallurgical Engineering and has at least 2 years of metallurgical experience, with familiarity in

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or Metallurgical Engineering.
• Minimum 2 years' experience in metallurgical or materials engineering.
• Experience with Microsoft Office 365.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation).
• Experience with metallic materials such as nickel-based superalloys and their processing.
• Ability to work autonomously and as a part of a collaborative team.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day metallurgical engineering support to Production Operations.
• Work directly with production engineers, technicians, quality, and design engineers to identify and resolve material and process issues.
• Assist with material testing and characterization required to support production, qualification, and hardware acceptance.
• Perform and support metallurgical laboratory activities including: metallographic sample preparation, optical microscopy, SEM, hardness testing, microstructural evaluation, fractography, material identification and characterization.
• Develop, write, and maintain PMP manufacturing process specifications.
• Support development and implementation of material and process controls within the production environment.
