Job summary

United Launch Alliance (ULA) in Decatur, Alabama, seeks a Metallurgical Engineer to join the Parts, Materials, and Processes (PMP) Engineering team. You will support production operations with metallurgical expertise and collaborate with design and quality engineers to resolve material and process issues.

The ideal candidate has a BS in Materials Science/Engineering or Metallurgical Engineering and at least 2 years of related experience, plus hands-on work with nickel-based superalloys and

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or Metallurgical Engineering.
• Minimum 2 years' experience in metallurgical or materials engineering.
• Experience with Microsoft Office 360.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation).
• Experience with metallic materials such as nickel-based superalloys and their processing (heat treatment, forming, welding, etc.).
• Ability to work autonomously and as part of a collaborative team.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day metallurgical engineering support to Production Operations.
• Work with production engineers, technicians, quality, and design engineers to identify and resolve material and process issues.
• Assist with material testing and characterization to support production, qualification, and hardware acceptance.
• Perform and support metallurgical laboratory activities including: metallographic sample preparation, optical microscopy, SEM, hardness testing, microstructural evaluation, fractography, material identification and characterization.
• Develop, write, and maintain PMP manufacturing process specifications.
• Support development and implementation of material and process controls within the production environment.
