Job summary

Arconic in Massena, New York is seeking a Metallurgical Engineer to join the Quality Team. The role focuses on product and process quality in a high-volume metal manufacturing environment.

You will apply metallurgical knowledge to support root cause analysis, corrective actions, and continuous improvement within ISO9001/AS9100 frameworks.

US work authorization is required and ITAR compliance is part of daily responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Pre-sales involvement / New Product Development: review customer specs and advise on product availability and PPAP if required.
• Review and approve new practices; support cost optimization while meeting customer requirements.
• Root cause analysis on production lines and disposition of questionable material with cross-functional teams.
• Handle customer complaints and drive corrective actions with Quality Systems and process engineers.
• Participate in activities supporting Arconic Massena’s Quality Management System and ISO9000/AS9100.

Arconic is currently in search of Metallurgical Engineer to join our Quality Team based in Massena, New York.

Responsibilities

• Pre-sales involvement / New Product Development: Review customer specifications and prepare letters of acceptance or exception. Advises Sales, Marketing or Customer Service of product availabilities, recommending full Trial & Availabilities reviews for non-standard products. Issues special Practices Requirements documents per Departmental procedures. Initiates PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) if required by the customer.
• Final Production Routing Review : Review and approve new practices, advising Customer Service and production planning of reasons for rejection. Ensures that practices are designed and effectively deployed to meet customer requirements, while optimizing costs and profit potential. Deploys effective change controls to maintain product quality and manage and control risks to safety in collaboration with the EHS department and process integrity.
• Root Cause Analysis on the production lines : Disposition internal questionable material, determining if the material is usable by the customer. Works with the Production, Maintenance and Engineering Departments to investigate root cause and problem solve to root cause on tight schedule
• Customer Complaints : Disposition customer claimed material. Works with the Quality Systems to issue corrective actions requests to responsible areas. Works with the area Operations Quality and process Engineers to develop effective corrective actions.
• Expected to participate in activities supporting Arconic Massena’s Quality Management System and maintenance of the facility’s ISO9000 and AS9100 Quality Certifications. This may include but is not limited to internal Quality Audits, procedure development and approval, reduction of internal and external rejections, management of change.

Also:

• Address quality issues related to the area of support (Extrusion or Fabrication), and will evaluate and develop products, processes, and equipment based on customer requirements, for the area of support.
• Ensure AS9100-ISO9000 procedures and product/process control are up to date.
• Recognizes that accident prevention program is equal in importance to production, quality, delivery, and cost control and accepts the responsibility to work safely and promote safety consciousness among fellow employees.

Qualifications

You have: (required)

• A Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Materials Science Engineering, Materials Science, or related field from an accredited institution.
• Technical and interpersonal skills essential to teamwork.
• Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
• This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S> person as a U.S> citizen, U.S> Permanent Resident (i.e., ‘Green Card Holder), Political Asylee, or Refugee.

Preferred Qualifications

• A Masters in Material Science.
• Three years of experience in a manufacturing environment in a metallurgy or an engineering capacity (e.i. maintenance engineering (Mechanical) or equivalent).
• Experience working in the aluminum industry.
• Working knowledge of metal finishing technology is a plus.
• Working knowledge of metal extrusions technology is a plus.
• Working knowledge of aluminum association standards, alloys and tempers.
• Previous experience working in a Union environment.
• Experience with ISO9001, AS9100 knowledge.
• Lean Six Sigma Green Belt (SSGB) or Six Sigma Black Belt (SSBB) certification, is a plus.

Base Salary Range:

$75,000.00 - $120,000.00
