Job summary

Acuren Inspection is seeking a Metallographer II in Richburg, SC to support high-volume lab operations. The candidate will conduct microscopic and macroscopic tests on metals, assist in sample prep, and study photomicrographs to determine structural characteristics.

Qualifications

• Associates degree or two years of post-high school studies in a relevant technical field.
• Minimum 3 years in materials laboratory setting or materials-related field; aerospace experience preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret detailed technical specifications and drawings.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Excellent English communication skills including correct grammar, spelling and punctuation.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Keyboarding proficiency (40 wpm preferred).
• Ability to safely carry out oral and written work instructions.

Responsibilities

• Conducts microscopic, macroscopic, and other tests on metal samples for metallurgical control and development.
• Assists lab personnel in sample preparation such as polishing or etching and designates examination areas.
• Studies photomicrographs and performs microscopic examinations to determine metal characteristics.
• Interprets findings and prepares reports, drawings, charts, and graphs with conclusions and recommendations.
• Coordinates and performs special tests like end-quench hardenability, bend and tensile, and grain size tests.
