Job summary

Wastequip in Tyler, TX is hiring a Helper/Cleaner/Finisher to clean, grind and sand surfaces of components prior to painting. The role requires operating a grinder, selecting abrasive wheels, and ensuring a smooth finish on finished parts.

You will support welders, set up weld areas, lift and move heavy pieces with hoists or forklifts, and perform routine maintenance on welding tools while maintaining safety and quality standards. Monday–Friday shifts. Wage around $14.51 per hour.

Qualifications

• Experience operating grinders and selecting abrasives.
• Ability to assist welders and handle heavy parts safely.
• Familiar with basic surface finishing and measurement tools.

Responsibilities

• Examines and feels surface of workpiece for defects
• Selects abrasive wheel, or disk according to specifications, attaches to grinder
• Starts grinder and moves it over surface to remove scratches and burrs
• Polishes ground areas to produce a smooth, unmarred surface
• Replaces worn abrasive disks and wheels
• Assist the welders with non-welding functions and set up weld table
• Lift and load work materials using hoists, cranes, or forklift
• Assist welders in loading or moving heavy work pieces
• Performs sub assembly work as needed
• Uses bracing and measurement tools
• Assist welders in bolting metal components
• Preventative maintenance of welding equipment and tools
• Clean workpieces as necessary with grinder or scraper
